Dysfunctional Planner

It’s true, I can’t wait to be sinking my toes into a beautiful Mauritian beach but honestly I am so happy to when I am home.

We recently put in a log burner and we love it. Wood has been expensive however it’s been a mild winter so far, so we haven’t had it on that much, as I am writing this I have it on full blast as the snow softly spins chaotic patterns outside. It’s freezing today.

But Saturday was mild.

Saturday was just a gentle perfect day.

We got up late chatting and joking I made us a hot breakfast of toast eggs and avocado and decided to tackle some of the garden.

We had had a free delivery of logs the previous day. If needs a year to season but it’s a gift to be sure. Gavin has just bought an axe to slice up the logs. I thought it would be easier to chop but it’s not.

I gave up after a few swings, scaring myself that I would lodge it in my leg.

Gav persisted and achieved a better technique and the results of a huge stack of wood. He barely got through a third of it but it is still progress.

We had a nice chat with our neighbours and he offered up his pallet for our wood which was kind. I made sure to cut off the brambles on his side as well as mine.

Two hours later we had a pile of logs and a much tidier allotment. I was getting cold but I had been meaning to clean out my garage shutters that were filled with plants. A messy job but it needed doing.

Then we took out some mince and milk from the freezer and headed indoors for hot showers and cheese on crumpets.

I spent the next two hours making a delicious lasagne opened a bottle of red wine and sat down to watch a movie.

It’s the simple things.

It was heaven. We were both sore and tired, I may not have chopped the logs but I did move the smaller logs that need to be chopped to the correct size.

Nothing major happened but we tidied an area that needed work. Started planning our logs for next year.

It’s the simple things in life that make you happy. It’s not just what we achieved that put a smile on my face, we did it together. He spent some time with/ near me, in my favourite place.
