Who was your most influential teacher? Why?
I have been lucky.
I enjoyed school, I had good teachers throughout my life and I have moved a lot.
My primary years I don’t really remember names but I remember what they taught me.
Roald Dahl books read to my class by our head master.because the reason he got into education was these books, so once a month he would take the afternoon and read to us.
My form tutor, who also taught drama and drama tech, Mr Branch. I think he is still teaching about to retire. He gave me freedom. He taught me a Love of theatre. We competed in the Rock Challenge (Rock Eisteddfod Challenge) against Australia and lost! I helped with the costumes.
My foundation course I had some crazy tutors, one who taught me to sew properly, and two lady’s who were inspiring but horrible to my friend so they don’t deserve any recognition. My theatre foundation was brilliant. I met one of my best friends and also some great friends that I still love and see over 20 years on.
Then there was Uni.
Where I loved all my tutors. Malcom for his love of the opera and his passion ( a great man). Robin who taught me about puppetry. Lesley and Ann who taught me about costume and sowing. And Liam who was a great tutor and was passionate about everything Irish.
But, my greatest teachers have all been my friends.
Becky- my ride or die, my rock the bravest women I know.
Sam the kindest person I know, she put up with a lot from me over the years and never once judged me.
George who taught me to not give a damn and do what you want. No grudges just move on
Charlotte the funniest most talented person I know, whose belief got her through a lot.
Jess the most compassionate person I have ever met, she cares for everybody and wants everyone to be be happy.
Cat the gentlest romantic who followed her heart for true love.
Mariana who taught me to listen not just to words, and that catholic/religious guilt is the deadliest thing in the world.
Polly, the feistiest woman I know, intelligent, outspoken ( that seems like a slur, there should be a better word) and political
Emily the gentlest one, the most incredible singer, the woman who looked for love with big open arms.
Linda the one who suffered the most and yet still the most optimistic women I know.
Alexa, a brilliant star who has the most level head and has always made me see both sides.
Katie the one who believes in you, you makes you smile and can make you see what she sees
Claire the warmest one, she can walk up to strangers and make them laugh and feel bonded a gift very few people have.
Lots of great women in my life. Not forgetting my mum, aunt and sister. But that would be a whole essay of a blog.
A lot of women have been my strengths throughout my life. There have been some great men too. But I may save them for another time.
Teachers are the ones you learn from, and great teachers are the ones you remember the lessons even if you don’t remember the names.
So tell the ones you love you love them, and check your stool it may save your life.
