Most people already do jobs for free

What job would you do for free?

Now, don’t get me wrong, lots of men do the cooking and cleaning. My dad is an amazing cook and was always tidy. However, the majority of women still work and do the cooking and cleaning.

I am only talking about people in couples.

That’s a sad fact.

New YouGov data shows that in many couples cleaning, cooking and child rearing is still considered a woman’s work. Two in five women who work full-time and have a partner (38%) say these tasks mostly fall on them, compared with only 9% of men in the same situation.

So the answer to the question is, I already do so much for free I don’t want another job on top of that.

I don’t really want to do other peoples gardens and neglect my own, although when we pay off the mortgage I may do a course on garden design so I can work on my own garden a bit better.

I wouldn’t teach art again for free, teaching is hard and it’s work so it should be paid.

I do 95% of the cooking and 99% of the cleaning. Part of that is my husband still isn’t back to full health but the majority is simply that if I don’t do it, it won’t get done. I have a lazy husband ( I also hate cleaning) but I knew who I was marrying so it’s my choice. He is a very lovely kind man who watched his mother do it all, my mum was similar, my father may have cooked and cleaned but he was also away for months on end.

I don’t think anyone should do anything for free. I would consider helping out but not a job.

That may make me sound selfish but we are living in a financial crisis and only the privileged can afford to do a job for free.
