Describe a positive thing a family member has done for you.
I am an army brat, my dad is from a tiny African island. All these thing would lead you to believe I would have a very different upbringing to every other Brit I know.
My dad let me be me.
I loved art and he paid for me to go to art school even though he knew it meant I may never make much money. He wanted me to have the life I wanted for myself. Both my parents did.
I grew up in a very loving household that had rules but wasn’t strict. I am a pretty carefree person. Having the right start in life, surrounded by love and family. there was very little religion in my home.
It made for a very wonderful upbringing where we could all just be ourselves. My dad put none of the pressures or beatings that he had growing up, on us. Even when I meet other army brats I feel like my life was different. I know it was hard on my mother and like most wives in the army they are the ones keeping it all together.
Just let your children be themselves, don’t try and force them to have what you never did. It’s important to let them carve their own life.
