Brushing up on a few techniques; make up bag updates

I am not a big makeup wearer I can go months without mascara or lipstick. I am also very boring, I like a very basic look, tinted moisturiser, red lip, eyeliner, mascara and blusher that’s it. But I spend a lot of money on my skin care and I like to invest in my makeup too. That doesn’t mean I don’t make mistakes, I do, it’s just that I need to make better choices. I do understand that good tools help create better looks.

I am looking for the perfect eye palette but I haven’t found it yet.

Well that’s not totally true. I found that Colour Pop did a collaboration with Raw beauty Kristi and it was earthy colours and greens which is what I like. I missed out on the first launch but the 3rd I got it. I was ordering on my phone and hadn’t noticed it had added two brown eyeliners when I only want one. I had already treated my self to the green eyeliner so I asked them to remove it. Apparently they can’t change orders they can just cancel it. So I cancelled it waiting for my refund, they sold out again, so I missed out. It was a perfect eye palette, not too much sparkle and enough greens to make a Smokey eye. I wasn’t impressed with the service nor the import taxes but it was still not too expensive I am just disappointed that I missed out. They probably won’t make it again it I have signed up just in case.

Zoeva brushes in rose gold

Every green eye palette I have seen has a lot of golds shimmers or mints. Basically an eye palette for an 80s party or very cool 18 year old. On me it would look foolish and outdated so I won’t buy them. As for shimmers…, no thank you. Great for a night out but I want to experiment with these and create some nice day looks.

My obsession with green knows no bounds.

So when I was popping this order through I bought some brushes. Little did I know the eye brushes would not be needed. I had bought a Zoeva brush for my eyeshadow last year and it was excellent. Then at Christmas I treated myself to a wing liner to help create perfect wings. I was so happy with these brushes that I made a wish list.

I thought that now is the best time to practice and play with my makeup. I mean I am not going anywhere. hopefully I will find the right palette or the Colourpop will come back into stock. I made the mistake in buying wrong products before.

Zoeva Brushes and Becca Palette

Last year I treated myself to a Becca palette that had highlighter, blushers and bronzer which is way too dark. It’s a lot of product. I still use the blushers. The highlighter is just too gold so it goes on my eyes, the bronzer also goes on my eyes. Gav asked me why I was orange when I used the bronzer for the first time, never again. Not a good look.

I had lots of cheap brushes and Zoeva is not an expensive brand but when you add them all together it all adds up. The brushes are beautiful and good quality. I have been using the first two for a while now and just this week for the rest. It’s a perfect collection for me, who doesn’t wear much makeup, I don’t need a lot.

The first brush I bought was rose gold so when I was selecting them I wanted them all in the same finish. They are so pretty.

In my selection I use:

  • 228 crease brush
  • 104 buffer brush
  • 317 wing liner brush
  • 126 cheek brush
  • 241 smudge brush

That’s it. I don’t really need any other brushes. I don’t intend on buying anymore unless they are replacements or I find it lacking something. I doubt it, as I don’t really do makeup but it’s good to use the right tools.

I am happy with my selection and even though I am not a girly girl I do love how pretty they are. It all started from one good brush that @annaedit recommended a hundred times and now I have 5! I have been playing and using them with my Becca palette.

I bought all these products using different websites from Cult Beauty, Look Fantastic and the Zoeva website ( which was running a promotion which is why I bought 3 brushes at once).

I will let you know how I get on with them but so far so good. I plan on brushing up on some techniques after all, I have the time.
