We are building an extension, it is going to happen but we had to put in planning permission. We didn’t go down the root of an architect. Wrongly or rightly we knew what we wanted didn’t feel the need to get anyone’s input. We did hire a draughtsmen surveyor who can make technical drawings and submit them to the council. In order to not annoy our neighbours we stuck within their extension limits to get the biggest space we can without going over the top.
Our garden is so large that we don’t mind going into it plus we need the space, our kitchen is too small and we have already bought a new kitchen ( second hand) so it needs to encompass that.

I couldn’t get everything I wanted.
- I didn’t want it to feel like an add on
- I didn’t want support walls on each side
- I wanted it to be a wall of glass
- Layout of the kitchen
Things I can’t wait for:
- Downstairs toilet
- Kitchen island
- Open Shelves ( still battling Gavin on this one, I am not backing down as I do 95% of the cooking) so to me it’s my kitchen.
- A green island
- French doors that go on to a patio
We are getting 4 quotes. 1 person I know personally, 1 company who lives at the end of our road, 1 recommended by our handyman and one a loose connection. It’s tricky. I want the one I know but it does depend on the cost.
Because money doesn’t grow on trees.
Extensions are expensive and so are all the add one.
It will all be worth it. Planning permission took 28 days, so now we will have to get third party wall agreements in place, not that we are expecting any issues but just in case.
We are very excited to get work started and finished on the house.
Tell the people you love, you love them; and chef your stool it may save your life.
