Planning the spare bedroom

Planning the spare bedroom has been a fun project until it gets to the buying materials and getting the work done. it’s not so much stressful as a pressure.

It’s my pressure as it’s my project.

The room has already had its electrics done and is now in a place of mostly plastered with lots of duck, no carpets or curtains and feels like a massive space, because it’s empty.

We used to have a sofa bed in the spare bedroom but both my parents requested a roper bed. Not because it wasn’t comfortable but because they didn’t like sleeping so close to the floor.

So when planning the bedroom we decided that this was actually going to be a spare bedroom. It would host our two large wardrobes along the back and a bed.

The wardrobes have chests of draws on the bottom so no need for more storage.

The room was pink for his grandmother and I really like the thick pink velvet curtains. I don’t mind that they are faded in places they will go with my scheme well.

Plans

Keep:

  • Doors
  • Windows
  • Carpet
  • Old wardrobes
  • An old mirror
  • Light fitting??? ( not sure yet)

New:

  • Bed
  • Panelling
  • Wallpaper
  • Bedding
  • Cushions
  • Picture rails
  • Skirting

It’s not a tiny room but I’ve the wardrobes and the bed are in there isn’t room for much more. We will probably push it to one side of the room to have a bit more floor space.

At first I wanted the Harry Potter paper but I also loved the Scandinavian wallpaper. I still love both of them. I may put the Harry Potter one in my studio whenever I start that project.

We ordered an Emma mattress because it was a decent price and the reviews say it’s comfortable. I can tell you it’s extremely comfortable and as all our furniture is in storage it is a godsend. It will be going with the new bed and my parents can try out their new bed in the summer. So now for the bed. I decided on a velvet green ottoman style bed. We cause it to store any of our families bits that we covet for them.

So this is the plan. Green panelling, a wallpaper…. As I still haven’t bought it yet. Pink velvet curtains and a neutral natural carpet.

That’s it.

Warm.

Cosy.

Pink and green.

I will post an update when the work is finished.

So tell the people you love, you love them, and check your stool it may save your life.
