Bathroom update…

We started having our bathroom ripped out. It didn’t take long to destroy and now it’s time to redesign a new bathroom. We have Pat who is doing the majority of the work and getting in professionals for the tricky bits but I thought you may like an update.

It’s messy, and gross we enjoyed having our last little shower. I thanked the room and we left it for a while. We were hedging our bets for when one of us fell through the kitchen ceiling. We could see the outline of the shower in the kitchen and if we took too long a shower, then it’s rained inside. The worst was when I pulled a mushroom of the ceiling. So we always knew it had water damage.

We knew it was bad.

We knew the whole room needed ripping out and starting from scratch.

It was a bad.

Damage and rot under our shower

Lucky for us we didn’t have a lot of mould. It was mainly just a small leak that had been dripping for years.

The plan.

Bathroom plans

Gavin tried to make me change my mind about the floor to make it easier for Pat. But I refused. This is the floor I had wanted for years, we both had, I didn’t want to compromise on the design. It may not be the easiest but I can’t be the hardest either. It will look beautiful when it’s done and I will be happy I stick to my guns.

When we ripped it all out we realised we could have had a small bathtub in there after all. It would have been a squeeze, but now we are glad and would rather have the bathroom feel spacious, plus showers are better for the environment, and we only use the tub a few times a year. It wasn’t an easy decision to give up the tub but it was definitely the right one. I am also craving an outside bath tub for me and Frank to use!

We also decided to save money and keep the windows. We may regret this later on but it is saving us thousands by not replacing the upstairs windows. They will have a good clean and I may paint them black on the outside, when we get the back of the house rendered.

The plan is to have the sink side of the bathroom white metro tiles and dark grout going up 3 walls and a white ceiling. A tiled bench in the shower and walls all a beautiful green.

I will leave you in limbo, because that is where we are right now. All the materials have been bought. A large shower tray, screen, new sink, tiles and chrome taps. We bought a beautiful heated tower rail to add some warmth the room and I can wait to fill it with asparagus ferns and peace lilies to soften the edges.

We are looking for a medicine cabinet that’s mirrored to go above the sink. But I am happy to find a second hand one, hopefully with a dark wood so I can introduce some natural tones. against the black and white.

So that’s our bathroom update. Lots going on, hopefully it will all be done by the time we get back.

So tell the people you love you love them, and check your stool it may save your life.
