As a gardener I just love weather plus I am British

What is your favorite type of weather?

I check the weather app everyday.

What is my favourite type, well I need all of it. I need the frosts and cold weather to kick my tulips into gear when they are in the earth. It may kill my dahlias but that just means they need another blanket of soil.

As for me I love winter and cold frosty morning are my favourite. Snow is welcome just as long as it doesn’t turn to ice. On days of ice snow and frost I get to gather blankets on the sofa, drink hot cups of tea and read books on what I plan for the new year.

Rain

I do love the rain, which is lucky because I live in a country that rains a lot. My garden needs the rain so again I look forward to it. It fills up my water butts so I can water my garden when it’s dryer. My plants thrive on rain water more than tap.

As long as I have the right shoes, I love walking in the rain, the smell of it. The splashing of puddles, I take my time and watch the world go by.

Constant rain can cause damage to my plants but last year we were lucky and it rained a lot at the start of the year and at the end.

Sunshine

Nothing makes a gardener happier than warmer weather and sunshine. It’s what our plants thrive in. I am currently in the process of planning my allotment so that shadier plants that tend to bolt will be happier and sun loving potatoes, tomatoes and peas can be at front of the beds.

Sunshine is life to my garden and working in it when it’s sunny is heavenly. Spring is that magical time of year when you gets lots of cold sunny days, which is perfect because there is so much to plant.

As a Brit we talk about the weather a lot because we can have multiple seasons in a day or a week. It’s what makes this island green and fertile.

Storms

Wind is only my favourite when it’s a breeze, whether warm or refreshing cool. Strong winds are not my favourite but they do bring dead trees down, which means wood for my burner. so there is always a silver lining to any weather.

When I am by water my favourite weather has to be a storm, as long as I have a big window to watch it roll in. Thunder and lightning are incredible especially during a heat wave when it brings the rain.

As a gardener I love all the weather, it’s just about balance, but weather isn’t perfect so you just have to bear it.

  1. I love all kinds of weather too except high winds make too much mess for me to clean up. It’s been raining here last 3 days so it’s now very green, beautiful spring wildflowers everywhere. Have a great wkend
