Working from home is wonderful

How has technology changed your job?

I work for a London council and before covid hit they had sold our offices. They were about to roll out work from home when it turned into a Necessity . Which means that they were prepared during the pandemic. And working from home is completely normal.

I love it.

I normally get up early and make a coffee or tea. Do the washing up and then start work. I generally head into the office once or twice a week but it’s not demanded of me. If I have to scan something then it’s easier to walk to the town hall which isn’t far from where I live. The walk is gorgeous, even during the rain. But if I have to be onsite then I get a bus for an hour which means I can read my book or I can study for my apprenticeship for work ( starts soon).

When my apprenticeship starts I will be able to learn online without having to go into college.

My favourite part is that I can garden on my lunch, me and Frank can go to the park or cook a nice lunch. I love the flexibility and the fact that we have the technology to do this. domes we all go to the coffee shop, get Franks nails trimmed or pick up groceries on my lunch.

When the house will be completed I will need to work out where I want my office to go. Gavin works upstairs in his office and has to go in a few times a week, so we will make sure that while we have builders Frank is never alone.

But my favourite part about working from home. Is the fact when I finish work I can close my laptop and it’s done. No commute home. Soon I will be joining the gym so I can fill my mornings and lunches with gym time!

Working from home and flexi time is incredible, I am grateful for it. 15 years of retail sucked the soul out of my life. I do understand that working from home can be isolating for many people. But all my jobs have been surrounded by people. I have a great group of friends and Gav has a great group of friends. So I am not lonely working from home.

Now I have flexibility.
