I think I made a poultry decision

What notable things happened today?

I want hens, specifically rescue hens. I want to give them a lovely life and space for them to end their days.

Eggs are a bonus.

The climate is crazy at the moment, I thought we were going to have a great summer but it’s June, drizzling and my garden is covered in slugs and snails that I can’t kill.

I don’t want to kill them. I even rescue the slugs if they are in my way. I do through them into the scrub but I don’t drown them or cover them in salt. But they are pests and do destroy my garden.

I would like to find a predator for them.

Chickens tend to scratch up flower beds.

But ducks are a bit gentler.

My sisters rescue hens

My sister told me that boy ducks get the chop because obviously they don’t lay eggs and aren’t as desired.

So…..

I think I made a poultry decision today. Instead of 5 hens I will rescue 3 girls and two runner drakes. That way I rescue 5 little lives, they can keep rack other company. I can plan there home so it’s easy to maintain so they will be happy and safe. 3 hens will produce plenty of eggs and my pest problem will go down with the ducks.

Your decision to rescue hens and ducks to create a safe, nurturing environment while addressing garden pests is indeed notable for its compassion and practical benefits.
