Making this house my home

My dream home.

I am so lucky. I have a nice house on a nice street in an area I like.

My mid terrace 1930s house won’t be everyone’s cup of tea and that’s okay. Our neighbours are pretty quiet so we don’t really have any issues with noise but the highlight of our home is its history and how much land we have.

Our home has always been in my husbands family bought it when it was first built in 1935 and endured a bombing during the war. His family hid under the dining room table while the facade was ripped off the building.

Currently it’s a building site and we are living in it. New builders new plan. Hoped it will be up in a few weeks and the interior will be finished a month after that. If it all goes to plan. we are trying to put back all the old charm back into the house.

We want dark moody cosy rooms and light bright breezy kitchen. Classic with a modern twist. We have curated lots of art and prints plus we have lots of furniture that Gavs great grandparents built.

My dream would be to have a library wall and I am still working on that with Gavin. He has agreed to shelves but not where I want them. I am prepared to wait.

Patience is key.

I want a brick patio for the garden, bricks are more expensive than so I will need to save up for them but I really want it. It’s worth the wait. I love my garden and I plan to host lots of garden parties with my friends and family.

Dream patio

We need to order our ceiling roses and carpet and then the majority of upstairs is done. After a year.

Building your dream home shouldn’t be instant, maybe not as slow as ours.

It’s important to find the right pieces, curating a beautiful home takes time.

  1. you’ll get there everything takes time. We used stones on our patio (pea gravel in between-big mistake but it’s between 2 huge trees oak & cedar elm-possums skunks dig in gravel at night). as it was cheaper than bricks. Our 1st home was 86yr old Victorian fixer upper old in old neighborhood needed complete doover took us 6 yrs (I might add both working full time going to college too) then we sold in 3 hrs due to overseas assisgnment. This house we’ve done 3 renovations mostly cosmetics but at least we’re enjoying it. It takes patience, living in dust & chaos. Thinking of you
