What’s in my make up bag for my hen do!!

Beauty, Make Up

This is a slight joke as I don’t have that much makeup but I have decided to show you my new purchases and what I am taking on my hen do.

My hen do is so close I can almost taste the Rioja! It’s going to be hot which normally means a bare face for me however this is a special trip and I want to look nice so my skincare is already packed.

This is about my face!

Let’s start with my base layer. I bought a cheap primer from and am trying that at the moment but from what I am learning about skincare a good moisturiser is all you need so I may leave that and just use my moisturiser.

Foundation I have the Tarte Amazonian clay base. Plus a little concealer but I am not sure if I will take that yet need to practice a bit more. It is lovely if you apply it with the brush. I will take it and also my La Roche Posay as that is a tinted sunscreen for the day.

Eyes I bought my Tarte palette but also treated myseflf to a gold metallic sparkle eyeliner just to add a bit of glamour. I don’t want to do to much. I have my normal eyeliner from Loreol which I find doesn’t last and also my eyebrow pencil from Elizabeth Arden which is great.

Nars duo is brilliant it has orgasm blusher and Laguna bronzer. I bought it because it was a great price and perfect for travel.

This Maped sharpener is the best. It’s from any art shop and it is so sharp I have one for my make up pencils and one for my drawing!

Lipsticks I am going with my trusty red Chanel CoCo Rouge and my little bobby brown I got with my Birchbox.

So this it’s.

That’s what’s in my makeup bag.

Not too much but more than I have ever had before. I had a little practice with everything on Sunday and was pretty happy with the results.

Makeup trial and fail

Beauty, confidence, Make Up, Personal Experience, Wedding, Wedding Budget

Okay so I am a nervous bride. Nervous in the fact that I am not glamorous or elegant. I can scrub up well but it’s never been me really. Having a makeup trial made me nervous.

How do I look like me without looking like me.

Online shopper

When it came to my wedding dress I was so nervous about trying it on and falling in love with an expensive out of my budget dress that I whimped out completely and shopped on line.

When it came to my shoes I did go to Harrods with the cash in my hand. I went to Jimmy Choo with the full intension of purchasing my wedding shoes and when it came to buying them it turned out I didn’t love them enough. I did however check out the slightly ridiculous Aquazzura shoes that I ended up purchasing online. I love them they are perfect.

Beautify

So when it came to hair and makeup I was like get a professionally do it. I want it to stay on all day and I want to look good. I had a good makeup artist and hair person but my MIL talked me out of them because they are in Kent and the dart ford crossing may be an issue.

So I looked for someone more local and found someone. I am not going to name them because they were very nice just not for me.

Not my style, baby

I should have seen the warning bells when I saw there Facebook page. 12 year olds with make up on. They issue a lot of makeup and weren’t really my style. But they were local!

I turned up to the salon and it was cool. I felt like a movie star. My mum and lil Sis were with me to tell me if I liked it.

Now because I am open about my opinions people think that this means that I can voice my concerns.

I changed my lip colour and asked for cat eyes which I didn’t get. So I asked for them again and I still didn’t get them.

I should have asked for more blusher but I didn’t. Wearing glasses means that you can’t really see the mirror. This meant that I just had to rely on the makeup artist.

They did a nice job on my makeup. Did I feel amazing?

No

I hate the face that no product or effort was make on my hair! Look at all those flyaways!

I wanted to feel amazing

The makeup lasted all night which was impressive. The lipstick endured me eating a burger. I am a classy bride after all.

But my hair was such a let down. She spent a total of 45minutes on my hair and makeup. She twisted it in a bit and put some tendrils back. No product on my curls and I had prewarned them I was most nervous about my hair. I would have done a better job without looking in the mirror.

Unhappy bride

I looked nice, maybe I will never look any better than nice but in which case I would rather save the money and do it myself!

It is so disheartening when you spend money on something that the girls at the beauty counter could have done and excelled at. I am a DIY bride, I don’t have the money to spend £100 for every trial I do. It’s fairly frustrating.

I did discover Bare Minerals lipsticks are epic and long lasting. But other than that it was a fail.

So now I am looking again.

How was your makeup trials or did you do it yourself?

Idle hands are the devils online shopping subscription

Beauty, confidence, Make Up, Wedding Budget

I have signed up to too many beauty / home websites. This pay day I had a ridiculous amount of emails offering me money off discounts, free postage ahhh. I want it all. my idle hands are shopping as soon as the subscription emails roll in.

My account looks healthy and my fingers start emptying it again.

I went on Cult Beauty filling up my basket with Zoeva brushes and Charlotte Tilbury makeup. When I got to a £100 of products I took a step back. What am I doing?

Stop the splurge

Yes I want to buy a lot of gorgeous things for my home but right now I don’t need them. I am not a shopaholic but there is something about a pay check that makes me want to spend money That has literally just entered my account!

I need to save

It’s not long till the wedding! This month has been all about paying for wedding deposits and payments. Blah blah blah. My savings are looking pretty empty.

Time for less outings

More walking ( bus fares add up)

Definitely no beauty, I have enough. I don’t wear much makeup so why am putting all this makeup into my basket? I am too susceptible to advertising and influencers. I do use all my skincare products but everything else is just money I could have spent on the wedding!

Idle hands

Luckily I also need to watch my diet! Which means less takeouts and premade meals.

As it’s a big sunnier I do want to eat better food with more veg and in the evenings I need to keep busy.

Idle hands are the devils online shopping subscription. They sit and wait for my pennies to roll in then they send me what I have always wanted but have absolutely no need for.

Yes I want velvet cushions with embroidered bees on, yes I need more plants! I just topped up my rather sad makeup collection with my Boots points. It really is the bare minimum and didn’t cost me anything however did I need it?

Plan

I need to be busier without exhausting myself like I did over Christmas.

I have so much to do so rather than spending my weekends completing tasks I am going to complete them in the weeknights instead. I will still schedule nights where I can just cuddle my best friend the sofa ( I wrote a blog on my lack of energy)

I will still relax when I need to, I won’t even look at my subscriptions this month unless Elizabeth Arden has an amazing deal on ( never going to happen).

I won’t delete them because I do have enough will power to stop buying them. This month will be a no buy month!

No spending on silly things

No make up

No skincare ( Cult Beauty I already miss you)

Do you have the same problem with pay day offers?

So obviously I bought the new Birchbox because Rock My Wedding sent me a naughty email and I wanted to try out half the items in it! It arrived within two days and I will try out the bits tomorrow when I go shopping with mum.

On Sunday I got a call from my mum suggesting that I had, HAD to buy the new Gatineau tanning accelerator.

“You don’t want to be a pale bride darling”

So thank you QVC for your special offers! I look forward to looking like a bronze goddess at our wedding.

So I failed!

But a few treats here and now are important to me not going insane with all the wedding planning.

Or so I tell myself.

What does a girl with big curly hair pack for a trip: Skincare and grooming products

Beauty, Make Up, Organising, Planning, Travel, Uncategorised

I thought I would share with you what this curly hair girl packs for a trip. Now a few years ago my grooming products would have been Boots curly cream, sunscreen, after sun, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. Now my skincare and grooming products now take up a shelf in my bathroom Gav calls them my Potions.

I basically transformed from a bathroom minimalist to having products overload.

This is all preparation for my wedding day and also just because I need to take care of myself in general.

So what am I packing for a long trip?

Protective Skincare

Sunscreen

So this is the most important section well that and my hair care. I have thick curly hair that can drink all the moisture in the air and treble in size. My skin is pale (thanks mum) so I like to have different protection levels of sunscreen. So, I have factor 20, 30 and a 50! For my body I wear what ever is on offer but when it come to my face I wear La Roche Posay Anthelios XL ultra light fluid SPF 50+. Light on your skin and super protective.

The Seychelles can reach high temperatures: that breezy coastal air and sometime cloudy skies can be misleading. Reflections from the water mean the sun can get to you from every angle.

You need to top up all the time.

Never miss the back of your neck and the back of you hands.

Aftersun

I like to use this every night even if I don’t get burnt. It sooths my skin moisturises and this also has mosquito repellent in it so I don’t have to smell horrible when I sleep.

Mozzy spray is key to surviving the tropics. I am not taking perfume because there is no point. I hate putting chemicals into the air however none of the natural remedies work.

I have tried tea tree oil, bracelet you name it.

I was eaten alive.

Now I can handle a few mosquito bites but my body doesn’t like them. I get huge egg size lumps on them. I hate mosquitoes, but scratching drives me mad.

Manhattan

My Skincare Routine, with Manhattan 11.

Skincare

Day

Even though this looks like a lot of products it really isn’t. I have my cleanser and toner are both Elemis, Lovely and light on y skin. I will use them morning and night. I also have The Ordinary’s Rosehip oil which is good for soothing the skin and Matryxal which is great for wrinkles and pore shrinking abilities ( I am a convert). Tata Harper diamond moisturiser that is very light and smells like heaven. I have a small travel size rose exfoliator from Elemis which is my favourite. When my skin is ready for makeup I used la Roche Posey tinted SPF 50 which I love.

Night

For night I have my Elemis night cream which makes my skin sing with pure happiness. Burt’s Bees for my lips. Sunday Riley’s Luna for a night time treatment. Decleor’s Balm oil again for a soothing treatment. Elizabeth Arden anti ageing serum which I am saving to buy the bigger one. This stuff is ridiculously good with a ridiculous price to match.

Hair Care for Curly Hair

May as well get a gripe off my chest. If you have slightly wavy hair you do not have curly hair. I hate it on adverts when they get a model with beautiful perfect curls, call it frizzy and then straighten them. Curly hair is not the same as frizzy hair. Because if there is moisture in the air my hair will absorb it and become frizzy hair.

The different between silky wavy hair and curly hair is when you wake up in the morning you may have slightly fluffier hair. My curls have matted and felted together to create what ever shape my pillow has moulded them in. Unless I sleep on my face my hair needs to be washed or at least conditioned everyday or it looks like crap.

If you think I look like sideshow Bob before I go to bed you should see me in the morning.

My curls are full on curls. I love them but they are a nightmare. My fair is dry, frizzy, curly and prone to itchy flaky scalp. Very sexy.

This summer I have had a lot of good hair days.

I have battled with my curls my whole life and now we are in a good place. I now brush them in the shower (Controversial I know).

I have just discovered Body Shops Ginger Shampoo which smells like heaven and looks after my scalp. I may be able to start wearing dark colours regularly. I am using Muai conditioner which is hydrating for my curls. I just keep it away from my scalp.

Then I use Boots Curl Cream which is the best thing for my curls. And a comb.

Shower and grooming

Shower gel I will use whatever is at my dad’s house I am not fussy. But I have a got an exfoliating glove to help get rid of all the dry skin.

Venus travel razor is beyond cute and super sharp blades.

Hair grips and bobbles. I keep my hair grips in a large tic-tac box. I saw this hack on Pinterest and it is the only hack that has ever really worked for me.

I am also packing my foot cream and pumice stone. Having your feet exposed all day in the heat or soaked in sea water can lead to super dry feet. Lets face it no matter how small you feet are they are never perfect.

Make Up

I don’t wear a lot of make up at all. I generally don’t wear anything heavier than a tinted moisturiser. My makeup bag generally holds about 10 items but what I am taking on holiday is:

  • Pretty pink Lancome blusher
  • Blusher brush
  • Lancome mascara which is lovely and holds a curl
  • Eyeliner is L’Oreal one which helps me create a cat eye look
  • Elizabeth Arden eyebrow pencil
  • Lano lips moisturiser
  • Lancome pink

I am sorry if that was slightly boring. But when it comes to blogs I am really nosy. I like details and lists and just generally finding out what people pack. I find that they sometimes don’t give me enough information. Having big curly hair means that in the tropics I can sometimes end up looking like Monica From Friends . We all know the hair, yup that’s me.

So if you want information please let me know!

That it from me.

Enjoy your holidays and let me know what you pack. When it comes to shopping for products I tend to shop around to find the best price. I am not loyal to one particular shop. So this is what a girl with big curly hair pack for a trip: Skincare and grooming products hope you liked it.

The Proposal: A Gory Start

Make Up, Personal Experience, Wedding

So, if you have read my first blog you would know that I waited a long time to get here. Well today I thought I would share with you the proposal.

Which was a total surprise.

But makes me so happy.

I didn’t believe it.

I have been waiting a while for Gav to ask me to be his wife. And if he tells you he wasn’t nervous, he is lying. Not from me answering him with a no (never going to happen), but just what he did.

So, in order for it to be a surprise my lovely fiancé planned to propose to me on the most unromantic day of the year in the most unlikely place.

The reason: he didn’t want me to suspect!

And I never would have in a million years

I looked terrible!

Me with my Zombie friend and Zombie Frank

Gav has been saying he was going to get me a diamond surrounded by dolphins and deliver it by carrier pigeons. I hate dolphins (don’t ask) not a solitaire kind of girl and I abhor pigeons. So that ring he described is definitely not my cup of tea. He is a complete and utter tease.

This is one of the reasons I love him so much.

We are never bored of each other.

Gav did my make up

So the day…

My wonderful man proposed to me on World Zombie day.

Covered in blood, fake glass glued to my head, surrounded with friends on a pub crawl in aid of St Mungo’s Charity. We do this crawl every year. You get dressed up. March round London with a horde of zombies and raise some money for a great cause. Stop at a few pubs on the way and scare a few tourists quietly eating their dinner in a restaurant.

It is really fun.

We are the first proposal they have ever had… I wonder why.

I should have suspected when my friends turned up, but others, couldn’t make it.

He didn’t want too many people to know, they would have had big smiles on their face all day.

Frank dressed as a zombie

Frank our Frenchie had only been with us a month and he was busy bounding in and out of people, happy as Larry, we had all had a few drinks. Talked to many Zombies and was generally having a thoroughly lovely time.

Me in a scruffy t-shirt and jeans, big hair lots of blood on my face.

We gathered for a group shot somewhere in Chalk Farm, north London. Gav ushered a professional photographer over and asks him to wait. Then starts bossing us all around because he wants me in the middle.

Just after the proposal I am still in shock

I had no idea.

I got fed up and told him off.

“Stop being so bossy and get in the photo” are words I usher before he asks me a question I always wanted to hear.

Then he gets down on one knee

And I don’t believe him, I hear the words but they don’t make sense.

Gavin is on one knee with a ring in his hand

And I still don’t believe him, I think he is joking mainly because he presents the ring like this.

My severed finger engagement ring

finger.png

Yes, that is a severed finger with a plastic cracker ring on it.

I thought it was a big joke.

Nope

After a while I realised he was actually asking and I loved it. I was elated, he had even asked my dad a month before. He said I can choose the ring I want but for me it wasn’t about the ring, it was about us. It is about us.

I did cry tears of happiness.

Emotionally it was a bit overwhelming, dreams coming true and all that. It was about love not romance.

Gav chose this Christmas cracker ring.

At Christmas we had been round his family and we had started our feast with this cracker and as this plastic ring fell onto my lap I said I do and proudly wore it for a week for a joke.

Gav kept it because he knew it would fit, he had actually thought about if for a while.

He truly is amazing, now we just have to find the ring!
